STUNT DEPARTMENT COMMAND MAP

A top-down production map shows Production Company / Producer and Principal
Director in production leadership. When a separate action unit exists, a
Second-Unit / Action-Unit Director directs it. The Stunt Coordinator heads the
stunt department, delegates through an Assistant Stunt Coordinator and connects
to fight, rigging, horse/animal, vehicle, water/dive and performance teams.
Anyone who perceives an immediate risk of harm to themselves or another person
may call a safety stop. That stop-work right belongs to everyone on the unit;
the Stunt Coordinator leads stunt planning and action changes, while resolving
the hazard and authorizing resumption follow the production's role-specific
safety process.
Dashed lines connect separate departments: First AD / Unit Management, Camera /
Grip, SFX / Armoury / Props and Medical / Safety / Costume. Solid orange lines
mean reporting or delegated authority; dashed blue lines mean collaboration or
domain interface. The model is representative and titles vary.

STUNT DEPARTMENT ROLE ATLAS

Four vertical zones separate command and delegation, action design and leads,
execution and support, and parallel specialist departments. Command includes
the Second-Unit / Action-Unit Director, Stunt Coordinator and Assistant Stunt
Coordinator. Action leads include Fight Choreographer, Head Stunt Rigger, Horse
Master, Driving / Vehicle Lead and Water / Dive Safety Lead. Execution includes
performers, doubles, players, stunt riggers, technicians, drivers, riders,
wranglers, rescue divers and junior/logistics support. Parallel domains include
Special Effects, Armoury / Weapons / Props, action-vehicle engineering, Camera /
Grip, Costume / Makeup / Prosthetics and Medical / Safety / First AD. The core
message is that roles are not the same as ranks. Anyone may call a safety stop
for an immediate risk of harm; the coordinator's highlighted responsibility is
the stunt plan and action changes, not exclusive stop-work authority.

STUNT CAREER PATHWAYS

A common but never automatic route moves from informal mat/equipment support to
a locally recognized junior or probationary performer category, then Stunt
Performer / Double / Player, Assistant Stunt Coordinator, Stunt Coordinator and
a possible directing appointment as Second-Unit / Action-Unit Director. Five
optional specialist branches show fight design, rigging, vehicle action, horse
action and water action; further performer specialties include falls, fire,
aerial/wire and creature/body work. Principal Director, Producer and Showrunner
appear in a separate box as possible career pivots beyond the stunt department,
not as further stunt grades.
